Fasting sounds harsh, but I’m not dying or anything–and I need a breakthrough. All day today, I’m drinking water or hot tea with stevia, eating a boiled egg when I’m hungry with lettuce leaves and a cherry tomato or two. Between those, if I feel hunger, I’m having a FAT BOMB. The Ketogenic Diet can be done without fasting, but I just have to break out of my plateau.
Fueling with fat (while keeping carbs very low) is how keto dieting works – check out this Ketogenic Diet post for more information. I maintained a partial fast all day yesterday until dinner. We ate out, and I had a Western Burger with sauteed mushrooms and onions, bacon, and lettuce. I removed the bun. It was completely satisfying, and I enjoyed every bite.
For the fat bomb snack, I’m using a recipe of my own that is half peanut butter, half coconut oil, and some unsweetened coconut flakes. I mix it and keep it in the fridge, and eat a spoonful if I’m hungry. It tastes delicious! There are lots of other fat bombs that use chocolate or pumpkin or pecans. Check out fat bomb recipes provided by Leanne Vogel at Healthful Pursuit. Just click on “Recipes” at the top of the page, and search on coconut and nuts.
